Red card changes the game
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has criticised referee Chris Kavanagh. The official sent off Ryan Gravenberch during a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
It was an even contest at Anfield before the red card. Gravenberch received a second yellow card for a challenge on Jérémy Doku. He had earlier been penalised for a challenge on Elliot Anderson.
City take advantage
Manchester City scored just three minutes after the sending off. Erling Haaland put the visitors ahead. Goals from Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki then sealed the victory.
Iraola felt his team played well until that moment. He said Liverpool were the better team for the first 62 minutes of the match.
Manager questions official
Iraola did not hold back in his post match comments. He stated that the first foul by Gravenberch was never a yellow card.
The Liverpool boss also mentioned that Ronald Araújo received a yellow card early in the game for complaining. Sunday's fixture was the first match for City since an independent commission found them guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules.
