Injury blow for Jacquet
Liverpool are waiting to find out how long defender Jeremy Jacquet will be out of action. The 21 year old centre back was left out of the France squad for their 4-1 Nations League win against Belgium.
The French Football Federation confirmed that Jacquet suffered a strain to his left hamstring. France boss Zinedine Zidane also spoke about the defender, saying he was slightly injured.
Jacquet has been a key player for Liverpool this season, starting six of his seven appearances alongside Virgil van Dijk. Head coach Andoni Iraola will have to look at other options if Jacquet cannot play on Sunday. On loan Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo and Joe Gomez are ready to step in.
Attackers also in doubt
The defensive line is not the only area of concern for Iraola. Liverpool are also facing problems in attack with doubts over Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.
Isak returned early from international duty with Sweden due to a minor thigh problem. Gakpo is an even bigger worry for the Reds after injuring his ankle while playing for the Netherlands.
These injuries could leave Liverpool short of attacking options for the big game. Iraola might have to play summer signing Bradley Barcola in a central role, even though he prefers playing on the wing. Another option is to move Florian Wirtz further forward from his usual midfield position.
Their opponents, Manchester City, will be playing their first match since an independent commission found them guilty of financial breaches.
