Chase Burns Out for the Season
The Cincinnati Reds have placed pitcher Chase Burns on the 15 day injured list. This move ends the season for the All Star pitcher, who is dealing with a right groin strain. The decision to place him on the list is retroactive to Saturday.
Reds manager Terry Francona explained that Burns felt his right groin slightly after his start on Friday. Francona said that the team is being very cautious with the young pitcher. Burns also missed playing in the All Star game earlier this year because of groin issues.
A Brilliant Year Cut Short
Burns has enjoyed a great season, finishing with 15 wins and 3 losses alongside a 2.86 ERA. He recorded 185 strikeouts and a 1.166 WHIP across 29 starts. He pitched 154 and a third innings this year, which is a massive jump from the 43 and a third innings he threw during his rookie season in 2025.
The pitcher has already made a mark in franchise history. His 238 strikeouts through his first 36 career starts rank third for the Reds since 1900. To protect his arm, the Reds had limited him to just three innings in each of his last three starts.
Burns admitted he was frustrated by the groin issues but remains positive about his growth. He stated that he is happy with how the season went and is excited to get back next year.
Roster Moves
To replace Burns on the roster, the Reds selected right handed pitcher Carson Spiers from Triple A Louisville.
The team also made another roster move by designating outfielder TJ Friedl for assignment. Friedl struggled this year, batting .172 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 91 games. He had already been optioned to Louisville on Friday.
