Major Injury Blow for Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have suffered a major setback on their offense. Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced on Monday that both David Njoku and Charlie Kolar are being placed on injured reserve.

The roster moves mean both players will miss at least four games. That leaves rookie Oronde Gadsden as the only tight end on the active roster.

Details of the Injuries

Njoku suffered a fibula injury during Sunday's 26-14 defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders. He went down while blocking for running back Omarion Hampton and had to be carted off the field. His teammates gathered around him on the field to offer support as he departed.

Njoku signed a one year deal with Los Angeles in May after spending nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He has recorded eight receptions for 67 yards so far this season.

Kolar is sidelined with a forearm injury and is expected to miss about a month. He joined the Chargers in March on a three year deal worth 24.3 million dollars after four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Kolar has three catches for 21 yards this year.

Difficult Start for Los Angeles

The injuries add to a rough start for Harbaugh and his team. The Chargers hold a 0-2 record after suffering home upset defeats against the Arizona Cardinals and the Raiders.

With two key pass catchers and blockers unavailable for the next month, the offense faces an uphill battle to find stability.
