Sleep over celebration on the flight home

The San Francisco 49ers secured a dominant 27-7 win over a division rival in Melbourne, Australia, before boarding their 16-hour flight home. While the team planned to celebrate on the plane, fatigue took over and most of the players slept through the flight.

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk said he woke up an hour before landing and found everyone still asleep, meaning the planned team party never happened.

Adjusting back to Pacific time

Getting back to their normal routine in Pacific time required some work. Coach Kyle Shanahan admitted he felt bad over the weekend but recovered by Monday. The team's training staff, led by Dustin Perry, gave the players strict instructions on sleep, hydration, sunlight, and caffeine intake.

Some players handled the jet lag differently. Running back Christian McCaffrey slept for 13 hours on the flight, while defensive end Nick Bosa found it harder to sleep once he got back. Shanahan gave the team Saturday and Sunday off, and modified Monday's practice to make it easier on the players.

Focusing on the home stand

The 49ers had asked the league to play on Monday night for their second game, but the NFL denied the request. Instead, the team received three consecutive home games, starting with a matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Even though the Dolphins have a new quarterback, head coach, and general manager, the 49ers are not taking them lightly. Linebacker Fred Warner noted that there are still things to clean up across the board to give the team a chance to win.
