The July Meeting
Manager Pat Murphy regularly gathers player leaders to ensure everyone is united. During a meeting on July 29, Christian Yelich spoke up with a bold prediction. At 34 years old, the former MVP declared that the team was going to win the World Series. Yelich asked his teammates if they agreed to that goal. Catcher William Contreras, Brice Turang, Brandon Woodruff, and others all said yes. Even Murphy eventually agreed, joining the group's vision. Yelich noted that speaking it into existence established a high standard for the rest of the year.
Ending Decades of Agony
The work finished on a Wednesday night in front of 40,489 people at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee fans took over the stadium to witness history. For the past 57 years, the Milwaukee Brewers were often overlooked as a small market team. They existed as an afterthought outside of Wisconsin. Fans believed anyway, and the team secured a 4-1 victory over the Rays in Game 5 to claim the championship. The win sent aftershocks of joy across the entire state of Wisconsin.
A Dominant October Run
Milwaukee put together a dominant postseason run after defeating the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Over the month of October, the team went 11-2 and outscored opponents 59-33. Both of their playoff losses came by just one run. Operating on a small budget and thriving in a small market proved strenuous over the years. Between their last run to the World Series in 1982 and the current era, the team often fell short of the game's traditional powerhouses.
