A bond beyond football
Jacoby Brissett and Bill Parcells have a relationship that goes back nearly 20 years. They first met when Brissett was a teenager at William T. Dwyer High School in Florida. Parcells, the legendary coach who won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, started watching Brissett's practices and quickly became a mentor.
Parcells helped Brissett with his finances, his professionalism, and his football career. For Brissett, who is now 33 and playing quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, Parcells is much more than a former coach. He is a father figure. Parcells even admitted that having three daughters of his own, Brissett is like a son to him.
Learning from a legend
In high school, Brissett actually preferred basketball and did not care much for football. Parcells saw something special in him and convinced him to stay with the game. Brissett says he would probably be working a regular job today if it were not for Parcells' guidance.
The two used to meet twice a year at a Florida grill for what they called Board of Directors meetings to talk about life. Parcells has always pushed Brissett to prepare well and save his money. That advice has paid off, as Brissett recently signed a contract with 15.5 million dollars guaranteed. Even today, the 85-year-old coach still asks Brissett to send him workout videos to check his form.
