Slow Start For Houston
The Houston Texans started this season with high hopes for the Super Bowl, but four weeks in, making the playoffs looks very difficult. The team sits at 0-4. Last year, the Texans started poorly and turned things around, and they did the same in 2023. However, only one team in NFL history has ever overcome an 0-4 start, which was the 1992 Chargers.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud noted that previous success does not help them now. He stated that last year's bread will not feed them this year. Stroud ranks sixth in passing yards and sixth in explosive rate on his dropbacks, but the team still struggles to get wins.
Defense Struggles To Finish Games
The biggest surprise is the defense, which allowed the fewest yards and second-fewest points last season. So far, they have given up 34 points to the Dallas Cowboys and 36 points to the Buffalo Bills. No team scored over 30 points against the Texans last season.
The defense held a players-only meeting after week two, but defensive end Will Anderson Jr. said there needs to be action behind the words. Coach DeMeco Ryans pointed out that the offense has scored go-ahead touchdowns late in the fourth quarter in three of their losses, but the defense failed to close out the games.
