Injury Blow for Houston
The Houston Texans are facing a major setback ahead of their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Star wide receiver Nico Collins suffered a hamstring injury during practice on Wednesday. The injury makes his availability for Sunday's match highly uncertain.
The two time Pro Bowler's status is now in jeopardy. Collins met with team doctors after the training session. The medical staff does not believe the injury is serious, but it is still enough to put his participation on Sunday in doubt. The Texans officially listed him as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Why Collins Matters
Losing Collins would be a massive blow to the Texans' offense. The 27 year old receiver is a key player for the team. In the Week 1 home loss to the Buffalo Bills, Collins led the Texans with seven catches on ten targets for 75 yards and scored a touchdown. He was the top performer for his team in all of those categories during the season opening game.
The six year veteran has been Houston's top receiver for the last three seasons, passing the 1,000 yard mark in each of those years. This is not his first issue with this type of injury. In 2024, Collins missed five games after being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring problem. His history with hamstring issues makes this latest setback even more concerning.
Heavy Pressure on the Offense
The Texans are already short on options in their receiving department. Wide receiver Jayden Higgins is already ruled out for the entire season after suffering a torn ACL.
This depleted offense must now face a tough Cincinnati defense. In Week 1, the Bengals forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks against Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. Without Collins, moving the ball will be a much harder task for Houston, especially against a defense that can create so much pressure.
