Hincapie Sends Message To Van Dijk

Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie aimed a clear taunt at Virgil van Dijk after his side beat Liverpool on Sunday. Kai Havertz scored the winning goal to settle the Premier League match in favour of the reigning champions, moving them back to the top of the table.

Following the match, Hincapie shared a close up picture of the golden emblem on his shirt sleeve, which marks Arsenal as the Premier League champions. He included the caption, "I don't forget."

The post was a direct response to Van Dijk. The Liverpool defender had previously posted a similar image of the champions emblem on his sleeve after Liverpool drew 0-0 against Arsenal at the Emirates back in January.

Penalty Controversy Frustrates Liverpool

Liverpool were left feeling frustrated after the match due to a penalty appeal that was turned down by the referee. During the game, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber grabbed the shirt of Liverpool forward Alexander Isak inside the box.

Van Dijk was unhappy with the refereeing decision. He questioned why a player has to complain when there are so many cameras capturing the action on the pitch.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola also spoke out about the penalty controversy. Iraola said that next time, managers should tell Isak to go to the floor, adding that otherwise the referees will not call the foul.

Title Race And Champions League Next

The result leaves Arsenal nine points clear of Liverpool as they aim to win a second consecutive Premier League title. Liverpool currently sit in fifth place in the standings following the defeat.

Both clubs will quickly focus on their upcoming Champions League fixtures this week. Arsenal will play away against Slavia Prague, while Liverpool travel to play Fenerbahce.
