Injury boosts for Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has named Kai Havertz and Ezri Konsa in his starting lineup for the visit of Leeds United. Both players had withdrawn from their respective national team camps during the recent Nations League window.
Havertz went off after 30 minutes in Germany's first match against the Netherlands before returning to Arsenal for further medical care. Konsa started for England against Spain and Croatia, but he pulled out of the squad before their home fixture against Czechia.
Arteta's update and bench selection
Arteta kept his plans secret during his news conference on Friday before confirming the selection. The manager explained that Havertz suffered a muscular injury and spoke with Jurgen Klopp to arrange his early return. He also stated that the club maintained good communication with England regarding Konsa's fitness issues.
The recovery of Havertz means Viktor Gyökeres remains on the bench. The Swedish striker scored four goals for his country in the Nations League, but his search for a first league start continues.
Squad rotations and team news
Declan Rice returns to the starting lineup after resting during England's recent run of matches. Myles Lewis-Skelly is also back in the team after sitting on the bench during Arsenal's previous league match against Brighton.
Noni Madueke gets the nod on the left wing ahead of Eberechi Eze. This decision comes as Christos Tzolis remains out of action due to an injury.
