Historic win in London

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or at a ceremony in London on Monday. The 33 year old beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to pick up football's most prestigious individual award.

Kane became the first English player to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001, and just the fifth Englishman ever to do so. Wembley Stadium lit up its famous arches in gold after the ceremony to mark the historic moment.

Gratitude for Spurs and England

Kane spent a huge part of his career with Tottenham Hotspur. He joined the club at 11 years old before moving to Germany in 2023. In his speech, he thanked his former team for helping him achieve his dreams. He gave a special mention to coaches Chris Ramsey, Tim Sherwood and Ryan Mason, calling Mason one of his best friends.

The England captain also shared praise for his national teammates after leading them to a third place finish at the 2026 World Cup. He thanked England manager Thomas Tuchel for driving high standards. Tuchel later praised Kane, calling him a leader and saying it was extra special to see an Englishman win the prize after 25 years.

Family and team support

During his speech, Kane remembered his current team Bayern Munich. He sent good wishes to manager Vincent Kompany, who is recovering from a collapse last week.

Finally, Kane thanked his wife Kate for her sacrifices and constant support. He also addressed his four children at home, Ivy, Vivienne, Louis and Henry, telling them he could not wait to bring the trophy home to celebrate together.
