Chargers Offense Struggles Again

The Los Angeles Chargers faced another difficult outing coming off their bye week, falling 24-9 to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The offense failed to find the end zone once again, leaving the team without a single touchdown scored in their last two matches.

This latest setback drops the Chargers to 0-7 on the season. That makes them just the sixth team in the Super Bowl era, which dates back to 1966, to start with seven straight losses after earning a playoff spot the year before.

Harbaugh Retains Play Caller

Head coach Jim Harbaugh opted not to make changes to his staff during the bye week. He confirmed after the match that offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will remain in charge of calling plays for the offense.

When asked about McDaniel staying in the job, Harbaugh stated that he is focused on the game and watching the tape. He said he still believes in his players and coaches, emphasizing that the team members themselves are the only ones who can turn things around.

Herbert Facing Turnover Troubles

Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards, but two costly interceptions hurt the Chargers. His second pick saw him throw the ball directly to Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie while attempting to reach tight end Charlie Kolar in coverage.

Herbert now leads the league with 10 interceptions this year. This is the fifth time in his seven seasons with the Chargers that he has thrown at least 10 picks, placing him on pace to beat his career high of 15 set in 2021. In addition to the picks, Herbert has fumbled seven times this season and lost two. Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald nearly recovered another strip sack along the sideline.

Focus Shifts To Houston

Addressing his recent form, Herbert admitted that he needs to make better choices on the field. He noted that playing better and working on his decision making is something he must focus on going forward.

Harbaugh acknowledged that he has rarely found himself in this situation during his coaching career, but maintained that the team must stay dedicated to turning the season around. The Chargers will host the Houston Texans next Sunday.
