Record breaking form for Sweden
Viktor Gyökeres heads back to Arsenal in high spirits following a strong international break with Sweden. He set a new Nations League record by scoring four goals across four games.
Gyökeres scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Romania in Bucharest on Monday night. This extended his scoring streak in the competition to seven consecutive matches.
The 28-year-old joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon last summer in a £64 million deal. Mikel Arteta has used him sparingly in the Premier League so far, giving him just two substitute appearances.
Chances ahead for the Gunners
Kai Havertz picked up a hamstring issue early in the international break and returned to Arsenal for further assessment. Because of this, Gyökeres might lead the attack when the Premier League resumes against Leeds on Saturday.
Reflecting on his form, Gyökeres told reporters that the goals helped Sweden win three games and draw one. He noted that it is a good start to the Nations League this year.
Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori also found the net during the international break. He scored his first goal for Italy in a 3-1 win over Turkey in Bologna, adding to his earlier Community Shield strike against Manchester City.
Calafiori and team updates
Calafiori mentioned that Mikel Arteta encourages his attacking instincts. The defender explained that the coach told him to attack spaces if it comes naturally, as long as he does it in the right moments.
Ahead of club matches, Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat against Brighton before the international break. Declan Rice withdrew from the England squad before the camp started but is expected to play against Leeds.
Other players picked up issues during the break. Ezri Konsa returned early with a quad problem, Max Dowman pulled out of the under-19 squad, and Christos Tzolis deals with a hamstring concern.
