The Drought Ends
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has finally hit a regular season home run at home. The star batsman helped Toronto to an 8-1 victory over Baltimore on Sunday with a fifth inning blast.
His 350 foot shot went into the left field bullpen off Baltimore pitcher Trevor Rogers. It was his ninth home run of the season and his first regular season home run in Toronto since August 17, 2025.
The hit ended a long run of 84 straight home games without a home run. His previous longest drought at home was 33 games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Team and Fan Celebrations
The home run caused massive celebrations in the dugout and among the sellout crowd of 41,805 fans. Guerrero even came out for a curtain call.
John Schneider, the manager of the Blue Jays, spoke about the reaction of the team. He said it looked like it was a walk off homer and added that it was just nice to get that out of the way.
Guerrero also spoke about the moment through an interpreter, saying that it obviously means a lot. This was his 29th career home run against Baltimore, which is the most he has hit against any opponent. The hit would have been a home run in six of the 30 major league stadiums.
Season Stats and Postseason History
Guerrero had an excellent game overall, finishing with four hits for the second time this season. He almost had another home run earlier in the game when he hit a double off the wall in right center.
Currently, Guerrero is batting .265 with 56 RBIs in 135 games this season.
While he struggled to find regular season home runs at home, he did hit eight home runs in 18 postseason games last October. Three of those came at the Rogers Centre as Toronto made their way to Game 7 of the World Series.
