Bats Come Alive in Chicago
The Cleveland bats finally woke up on Wednesday, keeping their season alive with a 9-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox in Game 3. After managing only three runs and seven hits combined in the first two losses of the series, the AL Central champions recorded 11 hits to avoid an American League Division Series sweep. Jo Adell and Jose Ramirez powered the visitors with a pair of two-out triples.
Adell struck a three-run triple in the third inning to give Cleveland a 4-1 lead. He also added an RBI triple in Game 2. Ramirez drove home Travis Bazzana and Patrick Bailey with a triple in the eighth inning, securing a 7-3 advantage. This performance marked the first time the franchise recorded two triples in a postseason game, and the first time any major league team achieved the feat since the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
Pitching and Baserunning Make the Difference
Cleveland relief pitcher Foster Griffin set a franchise record for a reliever by striking out seven batters in 2 2/3 innings. The left-hander allowed just one run and two hits, helping stabilize the game after Kyle Teel drove in an early run for Chicago in the first inning. The White Sox struggled throughout the night, striking out 19 times and going 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Ramirez added valuable baserunning in the fifth inning by doubling, stealing third, and scoring on a grounder by Chase DeLauter. His headfirst slide beat the tag to push the Cleveland lead to 5-2. Adell, Ramirez, Bailey, and Brayan Rocchio each contributed two hits to the team total.
