Short stay in Memphis
The Memphis Grizzlies and guard Jordan Hawkins have agreed to part ways via waivers. This move allows the 2023 lottery pick to find a new home in free agency.
The decision comes just three weeks after he arrived in a four player trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. That previous deal involved AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.
Looking for playing time
Hawkins is twenty four years old. Last season, he averaged 5.1 points in 51 games and struggled to find consistent minutes in a crowded New Orleans backcourt rotation.
The former UConn star played just 13.6 minutes per game. This was a significant drop from the 2024 to 2025 season, when he logged 23.6 minutes per game and averaged 10.8 points.
Draft history and changes
Hawkins is known as a perimeter shooter. The Pelicans selected him 14th overall in the 2023 draft.
His departure follows a regime change in New Orleans. Joe Dumars replaced David Griffin as basketball operations chief before Hawkins moved to Memphis.
