Big Extension Signed

The New York Giants have reached an agreement with cornerback Greg Newsome II on a new contract extension. The defensive back has agreed to a three year deal worth 46 million dollars to stay with the franchise.

His representative, Erik Burkhardt of Roc Nation Sports, confirmed the news of the extension. The contract contains 32 million dollars in guaranteed money for the player. The agreement comes halfway through his first season playing in New York, proving how quickly he has established himself.

Recent Moves Across The League

Newsome is 26 years old and has already played for three different franchises during his professional career. He originally came into the league as a first round draft pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2021.

He stayed with Cleveland until last October, when the team traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars. After finishing that stint, Newsome moved again during the past offseason. He signed a short term one year contract with the Giants before earning this long term extension.

Strong Defensive Performance

The decision to extend his contract comes after some solid individual performances on the field. So far this season, the cornerback has recorded 17 tackles and six passes defended for New York.

In addition to those tackles and pass deflections, Newsome has also grabbed one interception for the defense. His steady play in the secondary has provided stability for the team throughout the first half of the current year.

Giants Top NFC East Standings

Newsome and his teammates have enjoyed a very successful start to the campaign. The Giants currently sit at the top of the NFC East division standings.

New York holds a record of four wins, two losses, and one tie, written as 4-2-1 on the season. This successful record gives the team a great position as they head further into the campaign.
