Greenard returns to action
Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard is set to make his debut for the team on Monday night. He has been out of action with a pectoral injury that he suffered while lifting weights during the summer.
Greenard was listed as questionable on the injury report this week. He missed all of training camp and the first two regular season games. The Eagles will welcome him back as they look to improve their pass rush.
Limited snaps expected
Even though Greenard is back, he will not play a full game. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said last Tuesday that the player is "nowhere near ready" for a full workload.
Fangio explained that Greenard is coming off a long period of inactivity. The coach noted that for the first four to seven weeks of his injury, the player could not do much conditioning work.
What he brings to Philadelphia
The Eagles traded for the 29-year-old during the draft weekend in April. They sent two third-round picks, including the number 98 pick this year and a third-rounder next year, to the Minnesota Vikings. They then signed him to a four-year, 100 million dollar contract with 50 million dollars guaranteed.
Last season, Greenard had three sacks in 12 games after recording double-digit sacks in the previous two years. Philadelphia has a 45 percent pressure rate through two games, which is the second-best in the league. However, they only have three sacks so far. Greenard is expected to join Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, AJ Epenesa, and Arnold Ebiketie in the defensive line rotation.
