Jacobs cleared to make 2026 debut
The Green Bay Packers have added running back Josh Jacobs to their active roster ahead of his 2026 season debut against the Detroit Lions. Jacobs spent the first six weeks of the season on the commissioner exempt list before the league removed him on Monday. Green Bay officially moved him to the active roster on Saturday.
Jacobs was arrested earlier this year following a May 23 incident involving a woman at his home near Green Bay. On September 10, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor destruction of property charges. He was convicted of battery and fined 1,000 dollars, while reaching a deferred judgment agreement on the property damage charge.
League review and roster additions
The league continues to investigate Jacobs under its personal conduct policy. While a potential suspension could match or exceed six games, the six games he already missed will count toward any penalty. For now, Jacobs is cleared to step onto the field.
Green Bay needs his production in the backfield. Without Jacobs, the Packers have struggled on the ground, ranking last in the NFL with 59.8 rushing yards per game. Jacobs led the team in rushing during 2024 and 2025. Over those two seasons, he ranked eighth in the league with 2,258 combined rushing yards and tied for fourth with 28 rushing touchdowns.
The Packers announced several other roster moves alongside Jacobs. They signed wide receiver and kickoff returner Coleman Owen to the active roster from the practice squad. They brought up edge rusher Arron Mosby from the practice squad for game day and activated defensive tackle Jordon Riley off the physically unable to perform list.
