Royal Duties Put on Hold

George Desmond Kamurasi, the goalkeeper for ninth tier English club SE Dons, has decided not to become the king of a traditional Ugandan kingdom. He was chosen to lead the Tooro people after his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, passed away.

A committee of 21 people selected Kamurasi as their preferred candidate. However, the goalkeeper chose to stay in the United Kingdom. Committee member Fr Dr Charles Oyo confirmed that Kamurasi declined the role because of his other responsibilities.

Honouring His Cousin on the Pitch

Kamurasi, who is known to fans as Big G, explained his decision to focus on his team. He stated that he spoke with his family and decided to respect their current FA Cup run following the loss of his cousin.

Kamurasi said: "I'm back in the UK, I'm running our business, which is SE Dons, and honouring his name in any way I know best, which is winning."

Cup Run and Social Media Fame

SE Dons started as a Sunday league team and was founded by rapper Don Strapzy. They have grown into social media sensations, with more than 250,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel where they broadcast their matches.

The club is now on the verge of reaching the FA Cup first round proper. They recently defeated Weymouth 5-1 in the third qualifying round. Next, they will play Sholing to try and secure their spot in the first round.

Uganda National Team Dreams

Kamurasi's popularity has brought the club many fans from Uganda. The goalkeeper embraces his heritage, often using his catchphrase, six foot six and Ugandan.

Despite playing in the non league system, Kamurasi still hopes to play for the Uganda national team. He pointed out that Uganda's current goalkeeper and captain is 41 years old, meaning an international call up is still a possibility for him in the near future.
