Injury Blow After Scoring

Gio Reyna scored his third goal of the season for Strasbourg on Friday, but his evening ended early due to an apparent thigh injury. The 23 year old found the net in the 67th minute of their Ligue 1 match against Toulouse. Just three minutes later, he signaled to the bench for a substitution after feeling discomfort in his left thigh.

Reyna walked off the field and went straight down the tunnel. The setback comes right before the international break, putting his availability for the upcoming fixtures in serious doubt.

Upcoming International Fixtures

Earlier in the week, United States manager Mauricio Pochettino included Reyna in his squad to face Haiti in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals. The two leg series starts on Nov. 14 in Miami, with the return fixture set for Nov. 17 in Cincinnati.

The 16th ranked Americans face 84th ranked Haiti for a place in the semifinals, which will be played from March 22 to March 30 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Reyna had recently been in great form for his country. He started all four matches during the September and October window, helping the team win every game while providing two assists.

This latest injury is another blow for the midfielder. Previous injury spells hampered his progress during his time in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Match Results and Team Standings

Reyna was not the only American player on the score sheet during Friday's match. Defender Mark McKenzie scored the second goal for Toulouse in their 3-1 win over Strasbourg. Earlier on Friday, McKenzie was added to the national team squad as a replacement for injured defender George Campbell.

The victory was the second in four matches for Toulouse, moving them up to 10th place in the standings. Strasbourg continues to struggle, having now lost five of their last six matches. They currently occupy 13th place in the 18 team league.
