Chasing Star Talent
New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed he personally reached out to Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk about trading for defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. The star player ended up going to the Chicago Bears for multiple first round picks, but Harbaugh made it clear that New York is actively exploring options.
Harbaugh explained that the Giants are not bound by any secret agreement that prevents them from reaching out to owners or other teams. He noted that the team is open for any call as they try to improve the roster before the trade deadline on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
Roster Needs And Player Support
The Giants are looking for help on both sides of the ball. The interior defensive line remains a major area of concern, and the team has also shown interest in Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Acquiring Taylor would also require giving up multiple high draft picks.
Injuries have forced New York to look for running back help. Starter Cam Skattebo was working on the side with a trainer due to a hamstring issue, while Tyrone Tracy Jr. was recently placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Veteran offensive tackle Andrew Thomas said players welcome potential additions that could help them win games.
Draft Capital Strategy
General manager Joe Schoen and Harbaugh both agree that any potential trade must benefit the team in both the short term and the long term. Draft capital is a key factor in these decisions, especially since the Giants have limited picks available.
New York currently holds only five selections in the 2027 NFL draft. Harbaugh mentioned that the team would prefer to use 2028 draft picks if possible, joking that it is always easier to put spending on a credit card.
Focus On Upcoming Division Games
Making trade calls is not the main job for Harbaugh during the team's bye week. Most of that workload falls on Schoen and the front office staff who continue to explore options.
Harbaugh remains focused on preparation for upcoming matches. The Giants face a quick turnaround with two division games in four days against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
