A Big Blow For New York
The New York Giants have received terrible news regarding their defense. Middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds will miss the rest of the season because of a torn chest muscle. He got hurt on one of the final plays during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. He wanted to play through the issue, but medical checks confirmed it was not possible.
Edmunds signed a three-year deal worth $36 million with the team during the offseason. He led the squad with 50 tackles and was tied for the team lead with two sacks through six games. He also wore the green dot to make the defensive calls. The Giants will also miss outside linebacker Chauncey Golston for the rest of the year due to a neck injury.
Next Man Up
Coach John Harbaugh stated that the team has depth to cover the absence. Veteran Micah McFadden will take over in the middle of the defense. McFadden is expected to wear the green dot and communicate directly with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. Harbaugh mentioned that the team viewed them as having three starting middle linebackers from the start, so McFadden is fully prepared for the opportunity.
McFadden has started 36 games in his career. In addition, the Giants expect to have cornerback Paulson Adebo return from a knee injury. Starting offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor are listed as questionable with groin and calf issues, but they should have a good chance to play.
