Ultimately, the players held a vote to decide whether they should play the matches. A significant majority of the squad voted to fulfill the fixtures. FAI chief David Courell explained that the association respected everyone's opinion during the long discussions. He said that the squad had previously agreed to travel to Hungary, but Bazunu's withdrawal created a new situation that required careful thought.

Protest Actions and Match Schedule

Ireland will still face Israel at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen, Hungary, on Sunday. The match will be played in front of a limited number of Israel fans. To show their stance, the Irish players will wear black armbands during the match. This is to recognize all the lives lost in the conflict.

The team will also skip some pre-match ceremonies. They will not take part in the traditional handshakes or exchange pennants before kick-off. Additionally, the players have asked to be excused from media duties for the rest of this international break.

After Sunday's match, Ireland will travel to Dublin to play Austria on Thursday. They will then face Israel again the following Sunday. That match will take place behind closed doors in Backa Topola, Serbia. Head coach Hallgrimsson confirmed that all other players trained on Saturday and are preparing for the game.
