Surprise at Carrington
Michael Carrick arrived at Carrington early on Tuesday morning with his future up in the air. This followed a 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, which left Manchester United 16th in the table. Carrick took training as normal and now expects to be in charge against Chelsea on Saturday.
Manchester United have won just two of their 12 matches in all competitions this term. They also suffered a 4-1 defeat at Como in the Champions League before losing to Bournemouth.
Gary Neville reacts
Former club captain Gary Neville admitted he was surprised that his former teammate kept his job. Neville felt Sunday looked like a goodbye.
"I am surprised, but I am happy because I was absolutely certain that what I witnessed on Sunday would be the end of Michael," Neville said. He added that he hopes Carrick can get the players to start playing for him again.
Managerial challenges
Former United winger Ashley Young spoke about the difficulty of attracting a top-level replacement. Young stated that even the best manager in the world would look at the squad and refuse the job.
Meanwhile, defender Harry Maguire stated that the players are fully behind Michael Carrick.
