Neville attacks squad professionalism
Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United players after another heavy loss at Old Trafford. Sunday's 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth left the former captain questioning the habits and standards inside the squad.
Speaking on his podcast, Neville explained that he lives in Manchester and believes several players are not acting like professionals. He stated that some squad members do not go to bed at the right time, do not eat the right things, and fail to think about the club every single minute of every day.
He added that the players still walk around like they are King William, but called them nothing. Supporters held up a banner in the Stretford End during the first half with the word standards written on it, highlighting the growing frustration inside the stadium.
Carrick under pressure as replacement options emerge
The result leaves manager Michael Carrick in a difficult position. The 3-0 loss to Bournemouth came right after a 4-0 defeat away to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. United have now suffered six defeats in twelve matches in all competitions this season.
Despite the poor run, Neville defended his former teammate. He described Carrick as a brilliant man who possesses integrity, decency, and professionalism. Neville believes the players have turned on Carrick, noting a recent public statement from Bruno as a sign of trouble behind the scenes.
Neville admitted that Carrick leaving is probably necessary because he cannot get a tune out of the team. Reports indicate United are already considering Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann as possible replacements.
