A Big Finish to the Season
Francisco Lindor gave fans something special to celebrate on Sunday during the New York Mets final match of the campaign against the Washington Nationals. The star player hit his 300th career home run during the second inning of the contest in Washington.
The moment came when Lindor faced left handed pitcher DJ Herz. Lindor got hold of a 92.9 mph fastball and launched it 409 feet into the seats in left field. The blast was his 21st home run of the current season. It was also his first home run in several weeks, with his last homers coming when he hit two on Sept. 12.
Elite Shortstop History
Reaching 300 home runs puts Lindor in rare company. He is now only the third player who is primarily a shortstop to hit 300 home runs across a career.
The only other primary shortstops to reach this mark are Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada. Lindor now shares that distinction with two of the biggest names to play at the position.
Career Numbers and Mets Record
The five time All Star has maintained strong power numbers across his career. Lindor spent his first six seasons with Cleveland before making the move to New York.
The Mets brought Lindor into their squad before the start of the 2021 season. Since arriving in New York, he has continued to produce at the plate, hitting 162 home runs for the club.
Seventh Player to Hit Milestone This Year
Across baseball history, Lindor is the 172nd player to reach the 300 home run mark. He is also part of a notable group of players who reached the target during this single season.
Lindor became the seventh player to hit his 300th home run this year. The list of other players achieving the feat this season includes Pete Alonso of Baltimore, Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Matt Olson of Atlanta, Marcell Ozuna of Pittsburgh, and George Springer of Toronto.
