Former Steelers Boss Mike Tomlin Reveals His Secret Minecraft World

A surprising creative hobby

Mike Tomlin is famous for winning a Super Bowl and coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers for 19 seasons without ever having a losing record. He recently stepped down on January 13 and joined NBC Sports as an analyst. However, Tomlin has now revealed a completely different side of his life.

In a YouTube video lasting nearly 20 minutes, Tomlin showed off a massive Minecraft city that he has been building for more than 12 years. He started the project after watching his middle school children play the game. He used the creative mode of the game, which gives players unlimited resources to build whatever they want.

Building a virtual city

The former coach explained that he always had an interest in architecture and urban planning. Building the city became a way for him to spend time with his children. Although his kids eventually lost interest as they went to high school and college, Tomlin kept going. He admitted that his own involvement sometimes increased over the years.

Tomlin described the building process as therapeutic and mindless entertainment. He said he is not a big TV watcher and that the game allowed him to detach from the realities and pressures of life.

His virtual city features highly detailed structures built around a body of water. It includes a boutique hotel with therapy rooms, an apartment building with aquariums on every floor, and even public restrooms. He also built a rooftop penthouse with a Trump Tower sign, which a caption clarified was built around 2015 and was not a political endorsement. He even spawned virtual villagers inside the penthouse to see how people would move through the open spaces. Tomlin teased that he will show off his baseball and soccer stadiums in a future video.
