Remembering John Beake
Former Denver Broncos executive John Beake has died at age 87. The team shared the news on Saturday after receiving confirmation from his family. No cause of death was given by the team or the family.
A Legacy in Denver
Beake spent more than two decades with the Broncos organization. He joined the team in 1979 and held multiple personnel roles before becoming general manager in 1983. During that time, he helped engineer the trade with the Baltimore Colts for John Elway.
Beake helped guide the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances. This included back to back world championships in the late 1990s. The organization released a statement calling him a respected leader throughout one of the most successful eras in franchise history.
Career Beyond Denver
In the year 2000, Beake transitioned into a new role with the Broncos as vice president of administration. He later joined the NFL league office as vice president of player development and managing director of NFL Europe football operations.
Before his long tenure in Denver, Beake worked as an offensive assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1968 to 1974 under Hall of Famer Hank Stram. He also worked with Stram at the New Orleans Saints from 1976 to 1977.
