Yamal shines as Barcelona equal record
Hansi Flick praised Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world after Barcelona thrashed Real Betis 5-2 in Seville. The 19 year old opened the scoring in the tenth minute with a solo goal. Yamal now has nine goals and nine assists in 11 matches across all competitions this season.
The victory was Barcelona's ninth straight win in LaLiga. That equals the record for the best start to a season, set by Real Madrid in 1961-62 and 1968-69. Flick's team has scored 39 goals in nine league games so far, which is 20 more than any other club in the league.
Red card helps Barça seal victory
Valentín Gómez equalized for Betis before Rodri scored his first goal for Barcelona in the 41st minute. Betis had a goal by Giovani Lo Celso ruled out for handball by Cucho Hernández. Gabriel Jesus then scored early in the second half to put Barcelona 3-1 ahead.
Abde Ezzalzouli pulled one back for Betis, but Facundo Bernal was sent off shortly after for head-butting Yamal. Barcelona took full advantage of the extra player. Eric García and Dani Olmo added late goals to wrap up the 5-2 win.
Squad updates ahead of big matches
The win was Barcelona's 11th consecutive victory in all competitions. However, Eric García, Gerard Martín, and Jules Koundé all picked up knocks during the match. They are scheduled to undergo medical tests on Sunday.
On a positive note for Flick, Raphinha returned from a hamstring injury and played 20 minutes as a substitute. Barcelona travel to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday before hosting Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou next weekend.
