Late drama in Istanbul
Fenerbahce were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Slavia Prague in Tuesday's Champions League match. The result means the Turkish club are still searching for their first win of the Champions League season.
The match in Istanbul started at a furious pace. Oguz Aydin opened the scoring for Fenerbahce inside five minutes to give the home fans an early boost. Just moments later, Mason Greenwood doubled the lead with a superb half volley to put Fenerbahce firmly in control.
Slavia Prague fight back
Slavia Prague refused to back down despite falling two goals behind early on. Lukas Provod hit back almost immediately for the visiting side, scoring in the 15th minute to cap off a frantic opening quarter of an hour.
Fenerbahce maintained their lead for almost the entire match, but the visitors kept pressing. In the 90th minute, Pavel Kacor matched Greenwood's earlier effort by scoring a sensational equaliser. The last minute strike earned Slavia Prague a point and denied Fenerbahce all three points.
Greenwood's recent performances
Greenwood's goal was his seventh of the season since his move to Türkiye from French team Marseille during the summer. The strike came after a tough outing last week in England, where the former Manchester United forward was booed by fans during Fenerbahce's 6-0 defeat against Aston Villa in Champions League action.
Greenwood last played for Manchester United back in 2022. He was arrested and subsequently charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour before those charges were dropped in February 2023.
