Everton Secure Double Over Newcastle

Everton claimed a hard fought 1-0 win against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Monday night. The result marked back to back victories over the Magpies in just four days, following a 3-1 win in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Thursday night.

After a first half with few clear opportunities for either team, Everton broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart. Tyrique George struck a low effort that squeezed under goalkeeper Lukás Hornícek. Thierno Barry reacted quickly to pounce on the loose ball and score his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Moyes Pleased With Away Victory

Everton manager David Moyes praised his team after the match, noting that beating Newcastle twice in such a short window is not an easy thing to do for any club at this level. He described his players as a brilliant group who give everything they have despite experiencing a tough period.

The result ended a three match winless run in the Premier League for Everton and pushed them up to seventh place in the table. It also provided their first away victory of the current league campaign.

Moyes noted that his team had previously picked up draws in difficult away fixtures, but he was eager to get a win. He expressed delight at securing three points alongside a clean sheet and the decisive goal.

Newcastle Struggles Continue Under Jaissle

Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle admitted after the match that his side must do things better following a disappointing display. The Magpies struggled to threaten throughout the game and finished with ten men after Jacob Ramsey received two yellow cards in quick succession near the end.

The defeat leaves Newcastle 13th in the Premier League standings. Jaissle took responsibility for the performance, admitting that his players failed to deliver in possession and out of possession. He added that the team aimed to press high and defend in a compact block, but very little of that plan was seen on the pitch.
