Diaz is back in action

The Los Angeles Dodgers have received a boost for their bullpen. Closer Edwin Diaz has officially come off the injured list. He is back with the team and was made available for the series opener against the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

The 32 year old right handed closer has been out of action for a whole month. He has been recovering from a neck injury that forced him onto the sidelines. This was actually his second stint on the injured list during this season, making it a very disruptive year for him.

Before making his return to the major league team, Diaz had to go through a rehab program. He made five rehab appearances to test his neck and get his rhythm back. During those games, he pitched a total of 4 1/3 innings. He allowed six runs and managed to get four strikeouts during his time on the mound.

Roster changes and season stats

Diaz joined the Dodgers during the last offseason, signing with the franchise as a free agent. His performance on the field has been mixed so far. In his 16 games with the Dodgers this season, he has recorded a 2-2 record. He also has a high 11.85 ERA, which he will be looking to improve now that he is healthy.

To make room for Diaz on the active roster, the Dodgers had to make a tough decision. They optioned right handed pitcher Landon Knack to Triple A Oklahoma City.

This move came just one day after Knack put in a strong performance on the mound. He threw four scoreless innings to help the Dodgers secure a victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Despite his good work, he has been sent down to the minor leagues to allow Diaz to return.
