Lock's simple plan for success

Drew Lock is stepping into the starting quarterback role for the Seattle Seahawks. He is filling in for the injured Sam Darnold, but he knows he does not have to force anything. With a top defense and great offensive options, Lock has a clear plan.

"I think the biggest thing for us is taking care of the football," Lock said. He wants to get the ball to his playmakers, let the defense do its job, and win the turnover battle.

Lock did exactly that in Week 1. He came on after Darnold hurt his glute on the fifth play of the game. Lock helped the team rally to a 13-10 win against the New England Patriots. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers.

Team support and injury updates

The Seahawks defense is a major help. They allowed a league-low 16.4 points per game in the 2025 regular season. They also intercepted Drake Maye three times in the opener. Under coach Mike Macdonald, Seattle is 11-0 when winning the turnover battle.

Lock is 29 years old and has a 10-18 career record as a starter. He is getting support from Darnold, who has been in every meeting despite his injury. Macdonald said they do not plan to put Darnold on injured reserve, so he could return within three weeks.

The team might also have a full set of receivers on Sunday. Tory Horton practiced fully after missing the opener with a hamstring issue. Cooper Kupp also trained fully on Thursday after dealing with a back problem. Seattle has won nine straight games against the Cardinals.
