Trouble Under the Hoop
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was ejected for the first time this season during a home game in San Francisco on Monday night. The game saw Green get sent off during a heated sequence against the Phoenix Suns.
The incident occurred with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter of the contest. Green was under the hoop defending Phoenix Suns center Khaman Maluach when Green was knocked to the floor.
The Throwdown and Clash
Green got back up immediately after hitting the floor. He grabbed Maluach to commit a personal foul and then tossed the Suns player to the ground after the whistle had already blown. Referees called the action a throwdown and gave Green a technical foul.
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks sprinted from the top of the key to confront Green for the physical play. Brooks and Green are longtime rivals, and the confrontation quickly turned physical on the court.
Separation and Ejection
The two players grabbed each other's jerseys and engaged in a brief staredown. Officials and players had to intervene to separate Green and Brooks on the court.
After reviewing the play, officials called a double technical foul on both Green and Brooks. Because Green received two technical fouls in the exact same sequence, he was automatically ejected from the game.
Green Disciplinary Record
Monday night marked the 31st ejection of Green's career across both the regular season and the postseason. It was the 23rd time he has been ejected during a regular season game in his 15 year career.
Green has also been ejected eight times in playoff action. Through six games played so far this season, Green has already recorded three technical fouls.
