Doncic delivers big night
Luka Doncic put on a show in Salt Lake City on Sunday. He scored 52 points and hit eight 3-pointers to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 132-123 victory over the Utah Jazz. This performance stands as the first 50-point game of the NBA season.
Doncic made several big baskets late in the fourth quarter. He finished off a 14-5 go-ahead run with back-to-back 3s that gave Los Angeles a 127-121 lead with 1.42 left on the clock. He also finished the game with 10 assists and seven rebounds.
How the game unfolded
Austin Reaves added 29 points for the Lakers. Doncic and Reaves combined to shoot 21-of-24 on free throws during the match.
The Jazz started strong and built an 18-point lead in the second quarter. Lauri Markkanen led Utah with 28 points, while Keyonte George put up 24 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists. Jaren Jackson Jr. chipped in 20 points, and Ace Bailey added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Doncic hit a step-back 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds left in the half to give the Lakers their first lead at 74-71. The win marked the eighth time in their last nine games that Los Angeles defeated Utah.
