No Change At Quarterback

Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley is keeping Malik Willis as the starting quarterback heading into the team upcoming Week 6 bye.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Hafley made it clear that he is not considering a switch to backup Kyle McCord. The decision comes despite a tough start to the season for the offense.

Passing Game Must Improve

The announcement follows a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals where the Dolphins struggled to move the ball through the air. While the team rushed for 200 yards, Hafley admitted that everything in the passing game needs to get better.

Malik needs to be better, Hafley told reporters. The headline is we all need to be better, and I mean that.

Hafley pointed out that the receivers, tight ends, protection, coaches, and the quarterback all share responsibility for the offensive struggles. Willis currently ranks 31st in the league with a 56.2 percent completion percentage and has thrown for 849 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Focus On Ball Security

Aside from passing efficiency, ball security remains a major concern for the Dolphins during the bye week. Willis has rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns, but he has also lost five fumbles, including one in each of his past three games.

Hafley stated that the team will take a hard look at fixing the fumbling issues during the break. The coach noted that the team must do a better job of putting the quarterback in the right situations while Willis must also show more awareness to protect the ball.

Looking For First Win

The Dolphins enter the bye week on a five-game losing streak to start the season. The offense features the youngest group in the league, with three rookies seeing regular playing time, and Willis has faced heavy pressure behind the offensive line.

Willis believes the team needs deep self-reflection during the break. We just got to watch the tape and figure it out, Willis said after the game, adding that accountability will be key to turning things around.
