Ohtani rejoins teammates
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is making positive steps as he works his way back from the injured list. Ohtani has finally reunited with his teammates after they completed a seven game road trip.
The Dodgers had a highly successful trip. They managed to clinch the NL West title for the 13th time in the last 14 years. The team secured the division crown with a victory on the road against Cincinnati on Thursday. Ohtani was not with them for the celebrations as he remained at home to focus on his recovery.
Progress on the injury front
Ohtani went on the injured list just before the team went on their recent road trip. The designated hitter has been dealing with lingering pain in his right biceps, his left leg and his neck.
Instead of traveling, Ohtani stayed behind in Los Angeles to receive specialized treatment for his multiple injuries. He has started to swing again, hitting off a tee for the first time on Tuesday.
However, he is still not ready for full action. He has not faced live pitching or used the Trajekt machine yet. Manager Dave Roberts spoke about the situation on Friday. Roberts said, "He's not there yet, but everything I've heard, it's been a really productive last three to four to five days. He's in a good spot."
Timeline for his return
Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Ohtani back in the starting lineup. He is officially eligible to return to action on Wednesday. This matches up with the final home series for the Dodgers against San Diego.
The team staff wants to make sure he is completely ready before they put him back on the field. Roberts noted that he would like Ohtani to get 10 to 12 at bats against pitching before he makes his return to the lineup. Speaking on Ohtani's preparation, Roberts said, "It's what he feels good with, what gets him ready."
