Another Division Title for LA
The Los Angeles Dodgers are National League West champions once again. A convincing 8-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon sealed their fifth consecutive division title. It also marks their 13th title in the past 14 seasons.
Manager Dave Roberts emphasized that winning the division is never easy. He noted that while the team is proud of the achievement, their ultimate goal lies ahead. The Dodgers now have 93 wins and 60 losses on the season. They have reached the postseason for 14 consecutive years, tying a record set by the Atlanta Braves.
Chasing the Top Seed and Getting Healthy
The defending champions are aiming to become the first franchise to win three consecutive World Series titles since the New York Yankees did so from 1998 to 2000. Currently, they are chasing the Milwaukee Brewers for the top seed in the National League. The Dodgers lead the Atlanta Braves, who have 89 wins and 64 losses, by three and a half games for the second seed.
With the division wrapped up, the team will focus on getting healthy. Superstar Shohei Ohtani has been on the 15 day injured list since September 8 with right biceps inflammation. He will not pitch again this year but took swings this week and hopes to return as a hitter before the postseason.
There are other roster updates. Pitcher Roki Sasaki is set to start his next game after recovering from a blister. Closer Edwin Diaz is expected to return on Friday. However, Blake Snell is dealing with groin tightness, and Edgardo Henriquez has paused his rehab due to a back strain. First baseman Freddie Freeman has returned to the lineup despite knee soreness, picking up two hits on Thursday.
