A Special Reunion
Dirk Kuyt is getting ready for a very special match in the Champions League. His Fenerbahce side will play against Liverpool, a club he represented from 2006 to 2012. Kuyt admitted he felt excited as soon as the draw was made because both clubs mean a lot to him.
However, the Dutchman insisted he has no divided loyalties. He was recently placed in interim charge of the Turkish Super Lig side after Ismail Kartal resigned from his post last week.
Focusing on the Job
Fenerbahce has only managed to win one of their last five matches across all competitions. Last month, the team suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the Champions League. Now, a visit from Liverpool brings another tough challenge for the squad.
Kuyt stated at a news conference that he is not putting himself first. He wants to show the fans positive energy and a strong performance because they deserve much more.
Ready for the Challenge
The interim coach believes his squad has really good players who just need to show up with energy and passion. He thinks it will be a special night if the players and the supporters deliver their best.
Liverpool comes into the match without Ryan Gravenberch, who is sidelined with a heel injury. Kuyt hopes that a strong display against the English side will show Europe just how big Fenerbahce truly is.
