Parking lot confrontation

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wants a thorough investigation by the Southlake Police Department after an incident on Sunday that led to an assault citation.

Bryant, who is 37 years old, spoke about a confrontation in a Mexican restaurant parking lot. He said he followed two drivers after they cut him off in traffic. Bryant stated that he wanted to tell them to drive safer.

Weapons and police response

An argument started with one of the men. Bryant said the young adult driver insinuated that he would shoot him. Bryant responded by telling the man that if he pulled out a gun, he better use it.

The man never showed a weapon. Instead, he took out a cell phone to record Bryant. Bryant then knocked the phone out of the man's hand and encouraged him to call the police.

Officers arrived and ordered everyone to the ground at gunpoint. Bryant's girlfriend arrived with his two daughters and recorded the scene. Captain Blas Hernandez explained that officers drew their weapons because 911 calls mentioned a possible weapon.

The citation and after math

Bryant received a citation for assault by contact with an initial hearing set for Nov. 20. The fine is $367. Bryant called the police investigation very one sided because officers only viewed the other man's recording.

Bryant last played in the NFL in 2020. He is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and holds franchise records for the Cowboys.
