Injury blow in Buffalo

The Detroit Lions suffered a significant setback during their Thursday night matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York. Defensive back Avonte Maddox was forced to leave the game early after sustaining a foot injury during the first half of the contest.

The incident occurred in the second quarter of the game. Maddox was involved in a collision in the end zone with his own teammate, Chuck Clark. Following the collision, Maddox went down on the field. He managed to limp off the field alongside team trainers, but his night ended shortly after.

He was eventually placed on a cart and taken straight to the locker room for further evaluation. Not long after he left the field, the Detroit Lions announced that Maddox would not be able to return to the game.

Secondary under pressure

Losing Maddox is a tough blow for the Detroit defensive unit. The team is already dealing with several key absences in their secondary, making this latest injury even harder to handle for the coaching staff.

Star safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are both currently on the reserve PUP list. Because of this, both players are ruled out and will miss at least the first four games of the campaign.

The absence of these key defensive players was clearly felt on the field. The Detroit secondary struggled to contain the opposition after Maddox went off. The team found themselves in a difficult position quickly, trailing the Bills 27-10 by the time the teams went into the locker rooms at halftime.
