No Trade for Derrick Henry
The Baltimore Ravens will not trade running back Derrick Henry before Tuesday's trade deadline. Rumors had been growing that the team might move the five time Pro Bowler, but Baltimore recently told Henry that they intend to keep him.
The team never considered dealing the veteran running back. While some suggested interest from head coaches John Harbaugh in New York and Mike Vrabel in New England, there is no proof either team made an inquiry. The New York Giants did ask about Baltimore running back Justice Hill instead.
Ravens Aim for Playoffs Despite Quarterback Injuries
Speculation about a potential trade started because of Baltimore's injury problems at quarterback. Both Lamar Jackson and Tyler "Snoop" Huntley suffered injuries recently. Huntley is out for the rest of the season, while Jackson might return later.
To stay competitive, the Ravens showed interest in former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Baltimore holds a 4-5 record and believes Brissett can keep them in playoff contention. The team lost 33-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. That marked their third consecutive defeat by 20 points or more, which is a franchise first.
Henry Focuses on Turning the Season Around
Despite the recent slump, Henry remains committed to the team. He spoke after the loss to Jacksonville about getting back to work.
"I have not mentioned me going anywhere else," Henry said. "I'm saying, 'Let's go back to work. Let's try to get better and turn this thing around.'"
Baltimore now faces a more favorable list of upcoming games. They play the last place Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, followed by away games against the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. After a bye week, they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Historic Milestone for Veteran Running Back
During the game against Jacksonville, the 11 year veteran achieved another milestone. Henry passed both Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson to move into seventh place on the NFL all time rushing list.
He now has 13,707 career rushing yards. Henry has a chance this season to pass Curtis Martin, who sits in sixth place with 14,101 yards.
