No love on Sunday
Derrick Henry is getting plenty of messages this week. The Baltimore Ravens running back will face his former team, the Tennessee Titans, for the first time since leaving Tennessee after the 2023 season.
Henry spent eight seasons with the Titans, winning two rushing titles and the 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. He left as their second all-time leading rusher. He said it still feels like family there and there is always love, but added that there will not be much love on Sunday.
The running back joined the Ravens in March 2024 on a two-year, 16 million dollar contract. He revealed that Tennessee made no offer to keep him before he left. Henry said he knew the team was ready to move on, calling the situation bittersweet.
Teammates and rivals react
Henry is only the fourth player in NFL history to face a team for which he gained at least 9,000 rushing yards and 90 rushing touchdowns. He joins Emmitt Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Adrian Peterson in achieving this feat.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said the locker room wants to get a victory for their star running back. Jackson noted that the game means a lot to the whole team, not just Henry. Since joining Baltimore, Henry has run for 3,817 yards and 38 touchdowns.
On the other side, Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is ready for the challenge. Simmons, who used to run onto the field with Henry as co-captains, was blunt about how to stop him. He said they need to hit him and get all 11 players to the ball.
