A new approach on offense

The Denver Broncos are shifting to a more collaborative playcalling approach for their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coach Sean Payton will have an increased role in the gameday operation after giving up those duties to first-year offensive coordinator Davis Webb during the offseason.

Webb will still be on the headset talking directly to quarterback Bo Nix before each play. Payton has stayed heavily involved in game planning and meetings, but he will now be more active on the headsets during possessions than he was in the first four games.

Tackling early season struggles

The team sits near the bottom of the league in several offensive categories after four games. They rank 27th in scoring and total yards per game, while also struggling heavily in the run game and on first down.

Payton recently spoke about the four-game sample size and the need for better execution. He said his focus is on the specific details of each play regardless of who calls them. He also noted that Davis Webb is very fast and understands the system well.
