Injury Blow for Denver
The Denver Broncos have suffered a major blow ahead of their Sunday night game against the Los Angeles Rams. Rookie running back Jonah Coleman has been placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury on Saturday. The injury is a high ankle sprain, which he picked up during the team's Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coleman was already ruled out for the match against the Rams. This roster move means he will now miss at least three more games. He is expected to return on October 25 when the Broncos face the Arizona Cardinals.
Impact on the Running Game
Losing Coleman is a tough pill to swallow for Denver. The fourth round draft pick was instrumental in sealing the win against the Jaguars. He rushed for 33 of his 39 yards on the final possession, helping the Broncos run out the final four minutes and 41 seconds of the game. He also scored his first career touchdown on a three yard run in that game.
With Coleman out, J.K. Dobbins will take over as the primary running back against the Rams. Dobbins left last weekend's game with a hamstring issue but practiced fully on Thursday and Friday. RJ Harvey, who missed the Jaguars game with a hamstring injury, also returned to full practice and is available.
Broncos coach Sean Payton did not give details on Coleman's injury but remained positive. Payton said that Dobbins and Harvey had a good week and that the team would be OK at running back.
Other Squad Changes
The Broncos made several other roster moves on Saturday. They signed long snapper Mitchell Fraboni to the active roster. They also promoted fullback Adam Prentice and wide receiver Kolbe Katsis from the practice squad.
These moves could be important as wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr is questionable with a foot injury. Katsis was a productive returner in training camp and could step in if Mims cannot play.
