Injury Blow for Denver
Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Broncos are trying to bounce back from a Monday night defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs, but they will have to do it without one of their key players.
Mims did not practice at all this week. He is dealing with a foot injury, according to the team's official injury report. He originally left Monday's match against the Chiefs in the first quarter with what was called a hip injury. He did return to that game, playing nine snaps in total, but the foot issue has now sidelined him.
This is not the first injury problem for Mims recently. He limped off the field in early August during training camp, and he also suffered a right foot injury during the preseason finale on August 28.
Impact on the Team
Losing Mims is a big blow for Denver's offense and special teams. He is a two time Pro Bowl selection and was a first team All Pro returner in 2024. He also plays a major role as one of Denver's top four receivers alongside Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton.
Mims was drafted in the second round in 2023. He is currently in the final year of his rookie contract and will become an unrestricted free agent next March. He had two punt returns for 36 yards in the loss to Kansas City.
With Mims out, the Broncos have to find other options. Cornerback Kris Abrams Draine took over punt return duties on Monday night. Running backs RJ Harvey and Jonah Coleman were used to receive kickoffs. On offense, Pat Bryant stepped up to take Mims' snaps, finishing the game with four catches for 42 yards.
