De Zerbi remains positive despite cup exit
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is confident his team will soon find their form. Despite a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, the boss believes a turnaround is near.
Spurs have struggled to score this season. They have played four Premier League games without finding the net. Conor Gallagher's second half header at Anfield was their first goal against top flight opposition this term.
However, De Zerbi saw plenty of positives in the performance. He said that when his team clicks, they "are going to win many games and score many goals."
Dominant stats but poor finishing
The stats from the Liverpool game show that Tottenham had the upper hand in many areas. Spurs edged Liverpool on expected goals with 2.34 to 1.53. They also had 56 percent possession compared to Liverpool's 44 percent.
Tottenham took 17 shots with six on target, while Liverpool managed 12 shots with five on target. Despite these numbers, Spurs could not convert their opportunities.
De Zerbi noted that his team created several clear chances. He pointed out missed opportunities from Lucas Bergvall, Kudus, Udogie, Marmoush, and Sávio. The manager urged his players to shoot more and finish better.
Focus turns to Aston Villa
The focus now shifts to the Premier League. Tottenham will host Aston Villa in north London on Saturday. Both teams are still looking for their first league win of the season.
De Zerbi wants his players to stay strong during this tough period. He believes the team has been unlucky in their opening matches but trusts his squad to turn things around.
"I believe in my players, I have a big opinion of them," De Zerbi said. He added that once they finally get that first win, the team will enjoy it together.
