The red card moment
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that he kissed Rodrigo Bentancur after his red card against Manchester United on Saturday. Bentancur received his marching orders in the 78th minute following a headbutt towards Luke Shaw. The incident happened in response to a challenge when Spurs were already trailing 1-0 after Bryan Mbeumo scored just five minutes earlier.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Tottenham kept fighting and secured a stoppage time equalizer through captain Dominic Solanke. That late goal allowed the team to take a valuable point back to London.
Praise for player character
Speaking after the match, De Zerbi defended his midfielder and praised his fighting spirit. He told reporters that he liked the situation because it showed the team refused to accept defeat or concede goals easily.
De Zerbi acknowledged that the reaction was not done the right way, but stated that football requires character. He added that if his side can repeat the performance they produced at Old Trafford, they will win many matches.
